Why Pay for ‘The Art Of’ ?
When you subscribe to this newsletter, you aren’t necessarily paying for a specific writing piece or a checklist of things. ( Yes, you will of course be gaining access to weekly writings, studio concepts, behind the scenes of my work, and much more ) Your subscription is supporting overall creative expression, the development of new work, and overall maturation in the artistic process. Your support here allows me to continue diving deep into my work with integrity, intention and discipline. As the social landscapes continue to change and affect all creative businesses, this subscription validates the idea that writers, artists and creatives deserve to be paid for the labor and that goes into sharing meaningful work online. For less than a cup of coffee a month, you’re allowing me to spend my time with purpose and aspire growth in the studio. (and perhaps working towards a book… :’)
Supporting my work
You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of ‘The Art Of’ newsletter goes directly to your inbox, like a fun little digital newspaper delivered straight to your door. With endless things to numbly scroll online, it feels a bit different to open your inbox and commit to reading something intentionally. Personally, I love receiving these newsletters from my favorite creators each week: I learn, I cry, I process, I support others living a meaningful life in the process.
‘The Art Of’ connects patterns of thought from my artistic process into moments of everyday life: from the deeply personal to shared collective experiences. It is my way of observing the world around me, falling back in love with the mundane, appreciating the ebb and flow, and re-humanizing myself and others. It is a reminder that our life, always in process, becomes the art itself.
This practice started years ago, when I first joined Instagram. I was writing and sharing in the captions of my work; which allowed me to grow a community surrounding not only my art, but the humanness of life. As Instagram continues to censor artists, my work reaches my own audience less and less.
TikTok has reignited my love for sharing excerpts of my writing online, where I take bits of my writings and read them to you in a VoiceOver; overlapping videos and images from the studio and life itself. When I first started sharing, I hated the sound of my own voice and hesitantly threw it into the void, thinking none of it really resonated or mattered. Hundreds of thousands of you have proved otherwise, and reminded me that we are all inherently connected by bits of invisible thread: weaving us together through the familiarity of heartbreak, self-discovery, healing, adventure.
I want this space to be a great remembering of that powerful connection. The Art Of remembering, perhaps x
Community
I have been writing since I was a kid, but have never called myself a writer. It’s taken me almost 7 years to finally call myself an ‘artist’, even though it is my profession and life’s work. I’m hopeful this expression will encourage me to not only deepen my writing practice, but share it with all of you as well. As someone who writes daily, (not just to create artistic concepts for my pieces, though it’s a big part of it!), but for my own healing and processing, I want to empower others to live a life of self-reflection, vulnerability, and curiosity. Connecting with others through this work feels sacred to me, like worship. I long to remember how to feel grounded, how to feel nourished and challenged, and inspired; how to feel connected, how to feel human. The world is a messy and complicated place, and that is not changing any time soon. Bridging the gap of collective loneliness can be a daunting challenge. I believe we have more power than we realize, if we are brave enough to just start somewhere. It is my hope that this space will encourage any small movement towards remembering who we truly are — and learning how to see others in the process.
